I LOVE IT! It's practical, interesting, and pretty. Kitchens should be workrooms, not sterile showpieces.I also try to mix function with beauty (antique/thrifted, of course).
Thank you so much for writing this! This is the first time I have read or seen someone explain my own aesthetic to me. My very small home necessitates getting creative with my storage solutions but I also love seeing the evidence and beauty of an industrious and creative life. Thank you for inspiring me to continue to make my space both beautiful and functional. Now I'm off to reexamine my walls to see where it's not pulling its weight haha.
I’m so glad you found it helpful! I hope you’re able to share more about your own home as you keep creating a beautiful and functional small space. It’s so hard to find other people who relate, and I’d love to see what you come up with! And thank you for the Ko-Fi, you’re so sweet! ❤️
I love the volume of thought that has gone into making your home usable and not sterile. It reminds me of when we moved into our current house 3 years ago I had to find new places to hide all my goodies like Hurricane prep, backstock equipment, small appliances, canned goods etc.
Aside from on top of our cabinets (nearly impossible to access without a ladder or standing on the countertop) every space is purpose-used and we adapted other spaces to fit what we needed.
Thanks, Tyler! It can really feel like 4D chess trying to make everything fit and still feel cozy. It sounds like you’re in a similar boat! Our disaster prep around here is for snowstorms in the winter and tornadoes in the summer.
I no longer live in a small space (though we used to live in a school bus with four kids), but I love the creativity and feel inspired to try a few new things in my kitchen. Also, I dry my bags above the sink the same way but never thought to do that with foil. 🤯🤦🏼♀️
This is fabulous and real. You’ve inspired me to share more about my house — it’s too big and my kids are grown, so different but also the same in some aesthetic ways.
Our first house was a tiny farmhouse and the fridge was in the mudroom too! We eventually moved it to the kitchen onto the wood stove pad that wasn't up to code and kept the mudroom a laundry room. I hated that people walked into our house through the laundry room and then the dirty kitchen, but there really wasn't another choice since the driveway was back there. No one ever came to our front door. 🤷🏼♀️
I love your creative use of space! I also function much better when I can see everything, but my husband can't function when there's visual clutter everywhere. Even after 20 years we're still trying to figure out that elusive perfect balance. 😅
Thank you! This gave me permission to be in a small space and really make the most of it. Thank you.
I’m so glad to hear that, Julie! 💛
Loved this and super loved the photos! Making a small home work well and still be beautiful (as this home truly is) is an unsung art form.
Thank you so much, Amy, it means the world! 💛
My two favorites, the library seed catalog and canning rings as wall art! Your imaginative use of items and space is marvelous!
Those are some of my favorites, too! Thank you so much, Lesley!! 💛

Thank you so much, Amalia!! And I agree, working kitchens are the best!

Wow! Now this is a kitchen you know good food gets cooked in while being a work of art. Hot dang

This is great and gave me some ideas! Thank you!
I just love Hannah and her work. My kitchen and pantry, garden and book collection look a lot like hers.
